Anuga 2025 Launches Exclusive Pavilion for Sustainable Foods

Anuga 2025 positions itself as the most important international trade fair for the food and beverage industry worldwide, where we can discover the future of the food industry presented on a silver platter. This major event brings together the entire global food industry in a single place, functioning as a central hub for decision-makers, visionaries, and market creators. For the first time, starting in 2025, Anuga Fine Food will share hall 1 with Anuga Alternatives, which will premiere as a new dedicated trade fair for alternative proteins.

This innovative section of Anuga responds directly to the growing global demand for alternative protein sources, offering a specialized space for products derived from insects, fungi, algae, and cultivated meat. In fact, according to recent data, foods with insect-based proteins have recorded impressive annual growth of 114% over the past five years. As visitors to the anuga trade fair, we will have the opportunity to experience how strong impulses are set for a value-oriented future in the food industry, while the optimized reorganization of the halls reflects the ambition for anuga to be a pioneer of the global food sector in adapting to changing needs.

Anuga 2025 inaugurates exclusive hall for sustainable foods

The anuga 2025 trade fair marks an important milestone with the creation of "Anuga Alternatives", an exclusive hall dedicated to sustainable foods that reflects the fair's commitment to innovative and sustainable food supply. For the first time, this space will focus completely on the diversified range of alternative proteins, positioning the fair as a leader in global food transformation.

What products will be exhibited in the new space
The new Anuga Alternatives hall will present a wide variety of innovative products from five main segments:

- Plant-based proteins

- Insect proteins

- Algae proteins

- Fungi-based proteins

- Lab-grown meat

Furthermore, we will find a variety of organic products in the Spanish Pavilion, from olive oils, cheeses, and fruit juices to pistachios, canned fish, and vegetables. During the anuga trade fair in Cologne, visitors will be able to explore sustainable alternatives for climate-sensitive raw materials such as cocoa, coffee, or orange juice. For example, products like carob as an alternative to cocoa, lupin coffee instead of conventional coffee, or fermented fruit juices as a substitute for orange juice.

Why a hall dedicated to sustainability is being created

The creation of this exclusive hall responds directly to the central theme of anuga 2025: "Sustainable Growth". This concept refers to ecological and economic growth that can be maintained permanently without limiting natural resources or endangering future generations. Consequently, the anuga 2025 trade fair seeks to address the balance between economic growth and sustainability in the food sector.

The new hall reflects the growing interest and increased variety within the industry. Currently, there are more than 1,400 companies worldwide, including at least 70 in Germany, offering plant-based alternatives to animal products. Therefore, alternative proteins do not represent a passing trend, but the future of food.

The need for this space also arises from the major challenges facing the global food industry: with a growing population of approximately 10 billion people by 2050, the demand for food, particularly for proteins, increases. Parallelly, the threat of global climate change, water and energy scarcity, and the loss of biological diversity exert pressure on agriculture and the food industry.

The Anuga Alternatives hall therefore offers a showcase for innovations that will contribute to sustainably improving the global food system, responding to a need greater than ever.

Organizers restructure halls to improve the experience

In October 2025, visitors to anuga will find a completely renewed trade fair thanks to an ambitious restructuring of halls designed to optimize the experience. This initiative, which will be implemented from October 4 to 8 in Cologne, responds to the strategic adjustments planned by the organizers to facilitate navigation and enhance synergies between related sectors.

How the specialized trade fairs are redistributed

The organizers of anuga 2025 have made specific strategic adjustments to improve the segmentation of the ten specialized trade fairs that make up the event. This redistribution allows for clearer orientation through the different product sections, creating a more intuitive journey for buyers and professional visitors.

First, thematically related areas have been strategically relocated to be closer to each other. For example, Anuga Alternatives and Anuga Organic will now be near each other, making it easier for visitors interested in sustainable and alternative products to visit them more conveniently.

Furthermore, the halls have been reorganized following a more logical flow between exhibitors and buyers. This new design responds to the need to adapt to the changing demands of the industry, as Jan Philipp Hartmann, director of anuga, points out: "The new trade fair and the redesigned structure of the halls reflects the ambition of anuga, as a pioneer of the global food industry, to adapt to the changing needs of the sector."

Which halls change location

The most significant changes in the location of the halls for anuga 2025 include:

Hall 1: Starting in 2025, Anuga Fine Food will share this space with Anuga Alternatives, which celebrates its premiere as a new trade fair dedicated to plant, insect, algae, fungi, and cultivated meat proteins.

Hall 5.2: Previously dedicated to Anuga Meat, it will become the new center for Anuga Fine Food, directly connecting with the Fine Food sections in halls 1 and 10.2, thus grouping the entire "Fine Food" area in the southern part of the exhibition grounds.

Hall 7: The "Processed Meat" section will move from hall 5.2 to this space. It will also host Anuga Drinks.

Hall 8: From 2025, Anuga Hot Beverages will be located here, in the vicinity of hall 7 where Anuga Drinks is located, facilitating the thematic connection between beverages.

On the other hand, the former Anuga Out of Home, which was located in hall 7 in 2023, will no longer be an independent trade fair in 2025. Its products and services will be integrated into the offerings of the corresponding segments to promote better business matching.

What synergies are sought between trade fairs

This new distribution of halls seeks to enhance multiple synergies between the exhibitors and visitors of anuga 2025. Thematically related subjects are brought physically closer, creating more efficient and cohesive business ecosystems.

As a result of this reorganization, distributors and buyers will benefit from shorter routes between related halls. This aspect is fundamental considering the dimensions of the trade fair and the limited time of the professionals visiting it.

The new hall concept also offers better networking opportunities and fosters business transactions. By grouping the meat halls in the northern area and the Fine Food halls in the southern area, an optimized visit to the trade fair is guaranteed.

Consequently, the "Boulevard of Innovation" (North Boulevard) will integrate the Anuga Taste Innovation Show, the Trend Zone, and all participating startups, ensuring better visibility and a clearer view of global trends for trade professionals. This concentration of innovation makes it easier for us to discover the latest new products and food trends in a single tour.

Finally, the new hall structure reflects anuga's adaptation to an constantly evolving sector, offering an enhanced trade fair experience with better orientation, greater networking opportunities, and a clearer view of global trends.

Global trends drive food sustainability

Sustainability has become the main axis of the global food industry. During anuga 2025, the circular economy and conscious consumers will drive new sustainable solutions that will redefine the food sector.

How the circular economy influences the trade fair

The circular economy is replacing the traditional linear "take-make-dispose" model at anuga 2025. This holistic approach considers the complete life cycle of products to use them for as long as possible and reduce waste. The Anuga HORIZON stage will specifically address circularity, presenting practical examples such as edible packaging made from algae and technologies that optimize crops through artificial intelligence.

Residual agricultural materials, such as olive pits, now reinforce biodegradable packaging, while pineapple leaves are transformed into compostable packaging. These innovations combine functionality, sustainability, and consumer commitment.

What innovations are presented in the Taste Innovation Show

The Taste Innovation Show at anuga 2025 will exhibit the most outstanding innovations in the sector. An international jury of expert journalists and market research analysts will select the most interesting products from among thousands of proposals. In the previous edition, 689 companies presented more than 2,200 ideas, from which 68 exceptional products and concepts were selected.

The North Boulevard will integrate this space together with the Trend Zone and all participating startups, ensuring visibility for global trends. Highlighted innovations will include alternatives to climate-sensitive raw materials such as cocoa, coffee, and orange juices.

Anuga 2025 positions itself as a benchmark for food transformation

Anuga 2025 consolidates its position as the ideal business platform for the global food industry thanks to its openness, transparency, and strategic alliances. It will be the meeting point where we will discover all the trends and innovations that will define the future of the sector.

What opportunities it offers to exhibitors and visitors
The anuga trade fair provides personal contacts with relevant buyers and decision-makers, generating well-stocked order books and a high level of internationality. Exhibitors find a space to:

Present innovations at the Anuga Taste Innovation Show, where an international jury selects the most outstanding products

Participate in specialized conferences such as the first Anuga Halal Forum and the International Frozen Food Conference

On the other hand, professional visitors will be able to access in-depth knowledge about pioneering developments through the congress and event program, which includes conferences, workshops, and sessions with expert speakers.

How it connects with the global community #weareAnuga

The hashtag #weareAnuga embodies the idea of uniting the diverse global world of nutrition. Under this concept, people from different cultures, industries, and interests come together to discuss ideas, discover the latest trends, and collectively shape the future of the food industry.

Anuga's global orientation strengthens the food and beverage sector, promotes innovation, and drives international trade. In fact, the trade fair has evolved to become much more than a business event: it now represents a vibrant marketplace of ideas, a global source of inspiration, and a reflection of the social developments of our time.

Conclusion

Without a doubt, Anuga 2025 is preparing to revolutionize the global food landscape through a strategic reorganization that responds directly to the demands of the modern consumer. The new Anuga Alternatives hall therefore represents much more than a simple exhibition space; it symbolizes the future of our food based on sustainability and innovation.

During our visit to Cologne, we will experience firsthand how alternative proteins have ceased to be a passing trend to become fundamental protagonists of the sector. Furthermore, the redistribution of halls will allow us to navigate more efficiently between related areas, shortening distances and maximizing our time as professionals.

Fundamentally, this evolution reflects a profound change in our society. Half of global consumers would reject products that are not sustainable, while more and more people are adopting alternative protein sources for health and environmental reasons.

At the same time, the circular economy is consolidating as the basis for countless innovations present at the trade fair. Upcycled products, biodegradable packaging, and alternatives to climate-sensitive raw materials demonstrate, without a doubt, that the food industry is taking decisive measures against global challenges.

Finally, under the unifying concept #weareAnuga, this trade fair transcends its commercial role to become a genuine meeting point where people from different cultures and industries will share ideas and collectively shape the food future. Anuga 2025 will not only exhibit innovative products; it will also inspire us to be an active part of a sustainable food transformation that is already underway.
